Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and its optional protocol
Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is often referred to as the “women’s rights treaty”. This is deliberate because, although all human rights treaties elaborate basic human rights which should be enjoyed by all human beings, regardless of whether they are male or female, women’s issues are often overlooked. Women’s rights activists claim CEDAW as their treaty to expose the true extent of discrimination against women which remains the key obstacle to achieving real equality.
