Subsistence oriented rice framing in the rainfed lowlands of central and southern Laos-a policy dilemma

The overwhelming impression from this research is that Lao farmers are caught up in, and contributing to, a much larger regional process of agrarian transition which government intensification policies will be hard-pressed to counter. lowland rice farmers have adopted a range of technologies to improve the productivity of their farming systems, including the cultivation of modern varieties, use of inorganic fer-tiliser and limited mechanisation
