Land concessions and rural youth in southern Laos April 2015

In order to lift Laos out of its ‘Least Developed Country’ status by 2020, the government has been pursuing a five-year strategy (2011-2015) of industrialisation and modernisation aimed a 2 national development, reduction of poverty and a maximisation of benefits from human and natural resources (GOL, 2011). And The agricultural, forestry and mining sectors as key targets of investments (mostly foreign) made possible through land concessions.
